We recommend choosing the method that best suits your comfort and lifestyle.

  • Measure an Existing Ring
     If the person already wears a ring on the intended finger, you can measure the inner diameter of that ring and use an online conversion chart to determine the correct ring size. This method is discreet, practical, and often surprisingly accurate when done carefully.

     For a quick and accurate measurement, we highly recommend using the Ring Sizer by Jason Withers © app. This intuitive tool allows you to measure an existing ring directly on your iPhone screen by placing the ring over the display and adjusting the slider until it aligns perfectly. Simple, precise, and designed for ease.

  • Ring Mandrel (At-Home Tool)
     You may also purchase a ring mandrel for accurate at-home measurement. This professional-style tool allows you to slide an existing ring down the mandrel to determine its exact size with confidence.

  • Visit a Local Jeweler
     For those who prefer a traditional approach, professional sizing at a local jewelry store is always a reliable option. Jewelers use precise tools to deliver accurate measurements quickly and often at no cost.

    Note
     If they wear rings on other fingers, you can still measure the inner diameter using the methods above. Just keep in mind that finger sizes vary, and resizing after the proposal may be needed.
    If none of these options are available, choosing an average ring size is a perfectly acceptable approach — many engagements begin this way and are refined later.

Measuring at Home

If you prefer to measure at home using a printable guide:

  1. Print the ring sizing guide at 100% scale

  2. Cut out the paper sizer carefully

  3. Wrap it around the finger you intend to wear the ring on

  4. Adjust until it feels snug but never tight

  5. Read the size where the ends meet

  6. Repeat once or twice to confirm accuracy

Things to Consider About Ring Sizing

A few thoughtful details can make all the difference:

  • Between two sizes? Choose the larger.
     It’s better for a ring to fit slightly loose than to struggle getting it over the knuckle.

  • Wider rings tend to feel smaller.
     Rings with greater width often require a slightly larger size for comfortable wear.

  • Timing matters.
     Avoid measuring on extremely hot days or early in the morning, when fingers are more likely to be swollen.

  • Average ring sizes The average engagement ring size for women is 6–7, while for men it is typically 9. These averages can be helpful when estimating.

If the Fit Isn’t Perfect
